Befriending critters in Disney Dreamlight Valley is an essential part of expanding your companion collection and earning useful rewards. Among the trickier creatures to approach are the crocodiles, often referred to by players as alligators, which roam the murky waters of the Glade of Trust. Mastering the technique to catch and feed these cautious reptiles requires patience and precise movement.
Understanding Crocodile Behavior in the Glade of Trust
Crocodiles in Disney Dreamlight Valley inhabit the Glade of Trust biome exclusively. Unlike friendly critters like squirrels, crocodiles are skittish and will run away if you approach them directly without observing their movement patterns. They play a strict game of red light, green light with players who attempt to get close.
When you get near a crocodile, it will stand tall and look around to check for threats. You must freeze immediately whenever its head is raised up. Only step forward when the creature lowers its head back toward the ground.
How to Approach and Interact with Alligators
To start the catching process, spot a crocodile from a distance and slowly move into its field of vision. As soon as it notices you and stops, halt your character completely. Wait patiently until its head drops, then take one or two quick steps forward before stopping again.
Repeat this step-by-step movement until you get right next to the animal. Once you are close enough, the crocodile will lie flat on the ground, triggering the interactive approach prompt.
Feeding Favorite Foods for Quick Companionship
To successfully feed a crocodile, you need to offer items from its accepted diet. The absolute favorite food for all crocodile variants is Lobster, which can be fished from blue ripples in the Glade of Trust. Feeding them Lobster yields the best rewards and helps unlock them faster as permanent companions.
If you do not have Lobster available, crocodiles will also accept secondary liked foods such as Squid, Herring, Tuna, and Cod. However, giving them their favorite food provides the highest chance of adding them to your companion roster quickly.
Unlocking Alligators as Permanent Companions
Feeding a crocodile once will yield rewards like Dream Shards or motifs, but it will not instantly make them your companion. You must feed the exact same color variant on multiple separate days to permanently unlock it. Once unlocked, you can select your favorite reptile from the Wardrobe menu under the Companion tab to have it follow you around the valley.
